History of Norwex
Norwex “clean without chemicals” began in Norway in 1994, soon after microfiber was first manufactured in Sweden.- They were having a superbug crisis in Sweden—superbugs are bugs we can’t get rid of with disinfectants or antibiotics.
- A local University in Sweden—Lund University—decided to use the 100% Microfiber cloth—contaminate 10 surfaces with various superbugs—they used the same cloth to clean all 10 surfaces—found that ALL SURFACES were cleaned 99.9% with NO Cross Contamination between surfaces.
- While traveling in Norway two dynamic women from Dauphin, Manitoba was introduced to the product line. They saw the potential for microfiber in North America and in true entrepreneurial fashion set forth on their mission. Head Office remains in Dauphin, Manitoba and products have been distributed throughout North America since 1999.
- Norwex entered the home party market in Norway in 1995 and the business grew quickly.
- Norwex expanded to Canada and the United States in the spring of 1999 and experienced great success and growth.
- The business and product line expanded to include personal care without chemicals.
- The Norwex mission was to improve the quality of life by radically reducing the use of chemicals in personal care and cleaning. Norwex ideology is to reducing the use of chemicals in a broader scope, also with an ecological approach.
- In February of 2008 expanded to the UK
- In May 2008 Norwex opened in Australia
- The company plans to reach new countries by direct sales or through franchise opportunities.
